Pet Insurance for Rabbits

It is estimated that there are over 1.5 million pet rabbits in the UK, but only a small handful are actually insured. Owners either don't realise they can get insurance for their rabbit, or don't understand how much they could actually end up saving on vet bills.

If your rabbit were to become ill, your main priority is to provide it with the best care, there are however financial implications to take into account. Vet bills can easily build up and this is even before treatment has begun. But with the right rabbit cover, your insurance will foot the bill.

Choosing Rabbit Insurance

Choosing pet insurance for your rabbit may seem like quite a challenge, especially with the wide array of different policy options available. Having said that, rabbit insurance is flexible and there are policies to suit all budgets.

The cheapest rabbit insurance policy will usually have a set limit on the amount you claim and for how long. With this type of insurance, once your rabbit has exceeded the cost or time limit for treatment, the particular condition will not be covered for the future. This is the most basic type of cover, and although very cheap, it could end up costing you more in the long run if you rabbit were to develop a long term illness.

The next level up works on a similar principle but treatment duration and cost limits are increased. Once again, this option is relatively cheap, but there is still the problem of not being able to insure your rabbit elsewhere if it were to develop a chronic condition.

The Best Rabbit Insurance

The crème de la crème of rabbit insurance is lifetime cover. Although the most expensive, this type of pet insurance is the most comprehensive. You are able to renew your policy year-on-year regardless of whether your pet has a long-term illness or not. Effectively allowing you to top up your cover limits annually.
